to try to make it's own way in the world, rather than being a leading member of a much larger and more powerful political body.
I expect the anti-Europeans will be as good to their word as those who said they'd leave if Labour got into power.

we have a permanent seat on the UN security council
more money goes through our stock market than tokyo, germany and the us combined
our language is spoken in more places than anywhere on earth
Europe imports more from us than we do from them
we have the most stable and trusted currency in the world.
and we are better at rowing than everyone else.
