# is it just me
who wonders why they make telephones do things other than telephone calls?
(, Fri 22 Aug 2003, 23:24, archived)
# definately not
i once got told by a salesman that soon you would be able to speak into the phone and it would write a text message of what you said.

He looked stunned when i said why the fuck would you not ring them then

# none of my friends understand me when i rant on about
why they don't phone people using their MOBILE PHONES rather than spending money on an incredibly poor value thing to send such a tiny message and then have to wait ages to get a reply and miss out on talking to their friend.

# 100% of non fiction
i usually reply to texts by ringing people anyway.

if i write a text it ends up being 4 texts worth of message long. they should have a week where the phone companies disable the text services for everyone. would be fun.

# the worse thing is at college, where you get
people sending a text message to people who are a floor below, and it's not that large a building. they pay money to send a message out the window to a mast a couple of miles away and back to the same place to the other phone. why not leave the bloody phone alone, walk down the corridor, down the stairs and talk to them in person?!?

and on the rare occasions i use the text messaging thing, i write about five messages (and i spell things with proper words) worth and then my friends get annoyed at me for taking up so much space.

# yup
50p to write something you could say in 20seconds, and costs 2p.

although at my old work there was a strict no mobile phone policy, so i used to turn peoples on and send them a text to scare them a bit.

never got anyone in trouble though, since i owned up if it got mentioned, im not a nasty person

# too right,
especially if they gave you an actual phone on your desk, and everyone else was nearby.

# aye
dont even get me started on WAP, another thing that costs loads, takes ages, and doesnt answer your questions properly.

the 1st time i used it, i got given train times that were 4months out of date. very worth my 40p or whatever it cost at the time.

BAN TEXTS AND WAP i say

# I, without wishing to seem boastfull,
have plenty of money. But i will be buggered by greek pirates if i would dignify the phone companies smarmy marketing by using text messages at 12p a time. Its a great big waste of money, and then some.

www.lycos.co.uk do a free text thing anyway
