the george & dragon in epping high street used to be an old tavern
practically unchanged since the place was built (except for the addition of electricity, and some new beer lines).
There was a permanant cold spot in front of the fireplace, even if the fire was roaring away, it was always referred to as 'george's seat', as some old guy who was a regular for years always sat there, day in, day out, even after he kicked the proverbial bucket
unfortunantly, the pub got refurbished about 7 years ago, and 'george' left. i dont think he agreed with the decor, or the fact that the new owners gutted the place, and knocked down every non loadbearing wall, and turned it into a trendy winebar
