# A guy I once worked for
owned two really nice houses through inheriting from his grandparents.

He lived in one and the other was usually rented out, but had been left empty for most of the year. He therefore used to go and check on it most Saturdays, mostly to keep it tidy for potential rental viewers.

One summer he noticed furniture moving about - he'd arrange the furniture in the living room, and come back the next week to find the chairs slightly moved. Things like that.

Then food started going missing. So, obviously someone was living there, right?

He searched the whole house from top to bottom and found nothing - even poked about in the attic he'd not been in for years and there wasn't a trace of someone apart from the stuff moving about.

A few months later he was passing the house and decided to look in on the spur of the moment. That time he heard something moving and immediately called the police.

The police turned up and searched the house as he had done, but still found nothing. By now he was a little freaked out as he'd clearly heard something moving, but there was no evidence of anyone in the house.

Trying to be rational they decided that he and the police would 'pretend' to leave the house to see what happened. After half an hour or so of tense silence, they heard another thump.

He looked at the police, they looked at him, and then there was a louder noise...

... and a bloke who'd been living in the attic for 9 months walked down the stairs. He'd build a false wall across the attic and filled it with odds and ends from the house to make it comfy.

So, no ghost, but a scary story all the same.
