i thought that the whole point of pound shops
was that it took less time to pay, thereby reducing the amount of time spent per customer therefore reducing the amount of money spent on staff, therefore allowing for cheaper merchandise...

So the actual price of the items is 85p, with the 15p as VAT (give or take .1p or so).
