# hhhhhhh the sand treee
the bastard child murderer of the vegetable world

Know anything about small form factor PCs anyone?

# i don't know much
but i'm happy to try to help

# I'm just building a PVR/media juke box for downstairs
and I have a XP1700+ spare but I Was looking for motherboard recommendations - its either that or I'm going to build a lego case arround a normal ATX board and use that

# ahhh
www.mini-itx.com might have something

i'm using an xbox running linux as a movie/music player at the moment.
(, Tue 13 Jan 2004, 2:29, archived)
# I had a look there but the ITX stuff
is all C3/EDEN/Transmete stuff - which are great for power economy/sound levels - but as I already have the 1700+ I don't really want to change to a lesser chip if I can help it

the gingerbread house, however, is fantastic

# yeah, indeed
your best bet might just be to go atx if you want fast/compact.

# lego it is
I mentioned it to my mum (for it is for her) and she was keen on the lego idea, easy to put a new drive bay in I guess
(, Tue 13 Jan 2004, 2:35, archived)
# yeah, indeed
you're gonna need a lot of lego though

and you're tempting me to rebox the xbox in lego now
(, Tue 13 Jan 2004, 2:36, archived)
# hehehe
I have all my childhood lego in a sack somewhere - it's ment for my nephew - but this seems more worthy

Rehouse it HARD - the X Box looks arse in its normal box
(, Tue 13 Jan 2004, 2:38, archived)
# It'd certainly
make it look less ugly. Do it!

# Buy one
of these.

Aha! It's not a mac! That's foxed you all!
(, Tue 13 Jan 2004, 2:30, archived)
# I don't really know macs
but tat's too small for a PVR to be much sense - and I want to run linux/mythTV on it so I wabnt the hardware to be as bog standard as possible

but it does look like fun
(, Tue 13 Jan 2004, 2:34, archived)
# AFAIK, it's a standard
Crusoe-based PC, so I'd be fairly surprised if you couldn't get Linux running on it.

It probably costs a bazillion pounds, though.
(, Tue 13 Jan 2004, 2:36, archived)
# I'd be supprised too
with linus working there and all

it does cost a load and is underpowered - that said it would make a great status screen

# Does he still work at Transmeta?
I thought he'd left to wander the scorched earth, healing any sick people he meets on his travels, or something
(, Tue 13 Jan 2004, 2:42, archived)
# I think that's the other chap
who's doing an MBA at the university of wales or soemthing
