# my mate was doing 40 on a 40 road,
except the BT van behind him decided to go to 50, shunted my mate off the road and into the only speed camera for 20 miles.

result: mates car totalled, banned from driving for 2 years, insurance claim refused and BT threatened to sue my mate for damages to their van.

# Good for him
From your description, he does seem to have been particularly unlucky.
I agree though, speed cameras only catch those who break the law. If motorists didn't break the law on speeding, they wouldn't get caught. Sinmple. Every car's fitted with a speedo - use it!

# Although my dad was caught
doing 40 in a 30 - the signs were hidden , and the police had set themselves up with a radar gun just inside the 30 zone. When he got the letter, he knew exactly where it had been, paid up, and I think the points come off soon. His first fine in over 20 years of driving, a fair cop.

# on speed limits
i agree with them in town, but i think we should adopt the "autobhan" approach, fast as you like. My bike wont settle into a comfortable ride till it hits 90-95, but thats just me, also speed limits were set on a ford anglia, same with brake distances, it all needs an overhaul by someone that actually uses the damn roads, not some twunt MP who gets driven everywhere

# he was 19 when it happened
the guy in the BT van was 42, so they went for the one who had driven less. gits.
