Erm, yesMy pipes ARE plastic, and seeing as the U-bend was blocked because housemate had poured solid fat down there, boiling oil was counter-intuitive. Though I guess it would have worked.
Mr Muscle's finest chemical cocktail didn't work, so in the end we immersed the U-bend in a saucepan of hot water, which did the trick
