
Last time I was in Germany, total strangers kept asking me for directions. In German. And not all of these strangers were German. I don't speak a word of German, but can only assume I have the look of a native. It was bewildering.
Either that, or I'm stupid for being surprised by people talking German in Germany. Yes, that sounds more likely...

I was asked the way to the youth hostel.
Which was astonishingly convenient as "where is the youth hostel" is the only non-beer-related phrase I know in German and I was coincidentally on the way to the youth hostel.
