My climbing partner took a fall ice climbing, his gear ripped, and he landed badly. They gave me a lift to hospital too.
You could follow up that article with comments to do with we should all stay wrapped up in cotton wool in our beds. Who pays when a child falls badly off a swing and breaks their legs? The public. Who pays when an RAF chopper comes and picks up a climber? The public. Who pays for the mountain rescue folk? The climbers, walkers and mountaineers who donate money to them.
Edit: I see that page is part of a ramblers site. Look at Mountain Rescue statisitcs: 85% - 90% of rescues are of walkers and ramblers.

was a bit ambiguous about whether you were still having a dig :-)
Gah, tell me about the numpties. Best one I came across - It was pissing it down in Snowdonia, so I went for a scramble (Snowdon Horseshoe). Knowing that if I traversed around to the right on Crib Goch I could get some easy climbing to solo, I came across a group of people in kappa tracksuits, bright white trainers, and one of them had some plastic waterproof thing more suited to a music festival. They were sitting, shit scared on a ledge.
"Is this Snowdon?"
Guided them to the PYG track, and pointed them in the direction of said mountain, including showing them the red notice they had walked past saying "This isn't Snowdon"
