Actually, right after the attacks, Leonard Pitts Jr. (writer for Miami Herald) wrote an article telling us to be more like you brave Brits were when Germany bombed the heck out of you.

the major difference
though is that at that time we were in a state of war whereas that came from the blue if you pardon the expression.
