is it thatthe ones in the background are 'Homo Habilis', but the two in the midground are 'Homo Erectus' whilst the one in the foreground is a neanderthal?

Not quite...according to the beeb, the ones popping up are all Homo Erectus. The one being held is some stuntman's publicity shot (god knows what he's supposed to be), but the mistake is to do with him.
