but i found out why potatoswap was crashing. stupid thing was opening the file over the network because i wasn't paying attention, and that copy is corrupt. i restored locally. d'oh.

actually

the company that originally created zerowing (toaplan) has been out of business nearly 17 years now. they weren't parted out, and the zerowing license wasn't sold, so it's effectively public domain. :)
