Edit- how rude. The captain has a new job. YAY.

Short for "teddy boys". Started after the war as a yoof cult around Elephant & Castle and Notting Dale (near Notting Hill) in London - young lads who dressed in a weird version of Edwardian gents' clothes (hence "Teddy Boys", do you see?). Hung around caffs, had straight-razor fights, had burn-ups to Brighton on their Triumphs, Nortons, Tritons and BSAs...
It really exploded nationwide with the arrival of rock & roll; it's not generally appreciated that Teds actually pre-dated rock & roll. Yer *proper* teds always thought Elvis was teh gay and preferred Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochrane. Which is a bit ironic considering how mind-bogglingly teh gay old-school bikers looked and indeed often *were* (see various Kenneth Anger movies and Dudley Sutton in The Leather Boy).
Tomorrow's cultural studies lecture will cover the arrival of Ska. All students should bring their crombies and pork-pie hats.

But I do have a Norton. And I'm almost old enough. If my life didn't revolve around my cats, and I didn't hate tourism, I'd jet over to England. It looks so utterly cool. There's no variety here. Hm. Didn't mean to start a blog right in the middle of the board. But thanks for the info. Now I've got movies to find. YAY.
I skipped over Ska. Punk's more my style.
