I just bought one, but hate it already.
It responds so slowly, so that 'drawing' with it is really out of the question

In this particular case: Where am I being stupid?

worked really well, sounds like your processor can't keep up for some reason - your not running it on a 486 are you.
edit: i wouldnt give up on it - they are usually as responsive as a mouse and much nicer to use - maybe re install the drivers or something?
