I think it was developed mostly byBrit engineers for an American company (Ford) 'cos they were pissed off that they couldn't buy out Ferrari, but I could be wrong.

Actually, yesFord were pissed at Ferrari back in the 60's because they wouldn't sell out. So, they decided to beat them at their own game by producing the GT40.
