I think it was developed mostly by
Brit engineers for an American company (Ford) 'cos they were pissed off that they couldn't buy out Ferrari, but I could be wrong.

Actually, yes
Ford were pissed at Ferrari back in the 60's because they wouldn't sell out. So, they decided to beat them at their own game by producing the GT40.
The "40" in the name GT40 is there because the car was only 40 inches high. The modern version is a wee bit taller at...
