Having
The details of people who do not have a TV license contravenes the Data Protection Act, If you get a letter, or a visit from the TV licensing bods, tell them to Fuck Off and to remove your details from their computers and never to bother you again.

I have a friend who does work for them
and if they have detected that you own a tv but your name isn't on the register he will make a visit and will earn £30 (i think) for ever license bought on the doorstep and he won't take any bullshit either.

I have never
bought a TV license.
TV works fine without one.
Last time I was visited by an inspector blokey was about six years ago.
I pointed out that it is not an offence to not have a TV licence and he should go forth and multiply.
Went back indoors and discovered I'd missed an important bit of Eastenders.

It's only an offense
If you have a Telly.
Which is why keeping details of everyone who does not have a licence contavenes teh Data Protection Act.
The assumption being made is that if you do not have a licence you are commiting a criminal act, whereas there are perfectly legitamate reasons for not having a licence.
(And Yes, Coventry is a bit odd.)

I know
I just like to tell lies to the TV Licencing people.
(I never paid the Poll Tax either, I wrote to my local council and said that I Had no intention of ever keeping Polecats and didn't see why I should subsidise those who do. They left me alone after that))
