Can you recommend a cheap 3d software package for beginners wanting to learn, or does such a thing not exist?

This is a long shot - know of any good music creation software that is affordable (Looked at Reason but really can't justify spending that much). Oh, and I don't want to make dance tracks etc - more for game music.
