# winamp
or realaudio
according to taste.
edit: and apparently iTunes now has a use too.
edit2: quicktime too.
okay, everything more advanced than SoundRecorder can probably use the .pls file, it seems.

# oooh
is that what iTunes is for?
I thought it was just an irritation of apple's (got a shuffle, cue major iTunes irritation of already having my mp3 collection nicely organised, but with poo id3 tags which iTunes insists on using. jumbling up my nicely sorted music. badly. kinda fits with the whole shuffle thing, I suppose, but irritates the heck out of me)

# that's what I use for listening
I used to listen through Windows Media Player. I don't think I changed on purpose but I don't remember how it happened.

*shrug*

# probably file associations changed
if you updated mediaplayer after you installed iTunes. just dump a .pls file on your desktop, right-clicky and go for "open with" then "other program..." and pick whatever you want (notepad works, but doesn't make too much noise for me) and check the "always use this" thing at the bottom of that form.
edit: sorry. /geek

# erm...
sad admission, but I was using the folder structure to locate my mp3s to dump them onto memory sticks to play through my clie. may not have been the most efficient use of the mp3 format, but worked for me. then... iTunes struck. nice just chucking playlists onto the shuffle, it's loads smaller than my pda, but because of my slack tagging while ripping my mp3s iTunes is a pain in the whatsits. meh.

# ahh
all things have a use sometimes edit it does have the option to actually delete file in the media library

# indeedy...
I've generally avoided buggering about with file deletion in iTunes as I don't want to have to rip 15gig of my CD collection all over again.
