OS's occasionally just do their own thang and FUBAR*. One of me machines here worked flawlessly (with a fortnightly reboot) for a year then for no reason whatsoever went titsup.com and nothing could resurrect it. That one's now running Linux and hasn't stopped since.

*fucked up beyond all recognition unless you're an old DEC field circus engineer in which case it means failed unibus address register, fact fans

can be fixed with a bit of solderage. Refitted a new ROM socket to my prototype Memotech MTX today and the bastard STILL doesn't work. Grrr. Fortunately I know 4 ex-Memotech types so hopefully I can get the schematics.
