# blimey.. when did imageshack start pushing nasty popups with thinly disguised links to naughty nasty YICKY applications?

'your pc may have been attacked by a worm' it says in a nice Windows XP screen format.. `cept I`m using a different OS so it looks fucking stupid

# and ARSES
why`s firefox not blocking it

*goes to investigate*
(, Fri 12 Aug 2005, 17:25, archived)
# god
how I hate image shack for that
(, Fri 12 Aug 2005, 17:25, archived)
# and the ads are using a javascript that builds itself up in bits
so words like SCRIPT are done as SCR IPT and joined together.. firefox must filter them in a really naive way

.. I just block all the ad sites at home using squid; the amount of bandwidth and headaches it saves is great
(, Fri 12 Aug 2005, 17:28, archived)
# yep, got that too
bloody annoying
(, Fri 12 Aug 2005, 17:27, archived)
# what I would give to have access to our web filter admin here....
(, Fri 12 Aug 2005, 17:28, archived)
# strange

i got no popups.

firefox 1.03
(, Fri 12 Aug 2005, 17:28, archived)
# they`re pop "unders" that pop windows behind the current window so you don`t see them until later
maybe you`ve got decent filtering
(, Fri 12 Aug 2005, 17:29, archived)
# no pop unders either,
strange, and the only filter I've
got is *cough* windows firewall.

Perhaps they don't bother with a cz
address.

# what browser are you using?
and I wish (nothing personal) people would stop saying that firewalls filter web pages! just a pet peeve
(, Fri 12 Aug 2005, 17:38, archived)
# firefox 1.03
and you're right, I should know better. The
strange thing is, I just checked it with IE
and I still didn't get a pop (up)under.
(, Fri 12 Aug 2005, 17:43, archived)
# I have no idea what you mean. I was going to host it at tinypic
but their server is playing up. Besides I don't see any ads or popups. Unlike some I am able to use IE without falling foul of the shite people exploit it with. I have no need to use firefox.
When I click the thumbnail I just get the imageshack page and the picture, not a single ad.
I can't help people who can't keep their systems clean from ads.
(, Fri 12 Aug 2005, 17:32, archived)
# is that supposed to be a lesson in IT?
I can`t be the senior web developer here AND head of infrastructure and web filtering

I know how to run a tight ship, and I`m telling you that imageshack are fucking about

sorry for lack of fluff, but I`m not Aunty Maud who hasn`t a clue what she`s doing
(, Fri 12 Aug 2005, 17:36, archived)
# No Rik.
And it was not even meant for you, I just had to reply somewhere. It's more about people having a go at me because I won't join the cool ship firefox. Why can't people just allow other people to use the applications of their choice without being elitist about it? I don't preen about my search client to people who are dumb enough to think that Google is an efficient way to search the web.

Don't worry about no fluff. I'll never care. But sorry if you thought it was a personal dig.

# ah nae bother
sorry for going off on one

# erhm,
Rik is rather knowledgeable about computers,
not the greatest singer, perhaps, but that's
another story altogether:

# I`d recommend blocking anything from casalemedia
they`re being sneaky wee fuckers.. it`s either that or block imageshack, which is a bit excessive

# I also use
everyones other pet hate, Norton Internet Security 2005 . Because a) I don't understand or see the system hogging that people witter on about and b) it does what I want it to. For all people slag it off i can tell you it does a sterling job of stripping ads from sites. I can go to places that are covered in banner ads and I'm unlucky if I see one.

# I seem to me
I've always thought I was just doing the sensible thing. I like to use what works for me and I seriously get flummoxed at the things people say about the stuff I use. Each to their own of course. I have Firefox, I just forget to use it because it serves to give me no discernable advantage plus it's different, and at my age different just means harder to handle. I still think that if something is industry standard like Norton then therte is a good chance it does the job.
As my mum said " It's not you that's different son, it's everyone else".
(, Fri 12 Aug 2005, 17:59, archived)
# Well, I discovered Firefox on my own,
and now I use it exclusively. I suppose I
would have dug in my heels had a bunch of
people tried to convince me it was superior.

# NIS 2005 is fucking dog-wank
it pops up at the most inopportune moments during counter strike, and is a complete fucker to uninstall. and it doesnt even work properly. utter toss.
(, Fri 12 Aug 2005, 18:06, archived)
# See. I just
put this down to incompetence. 1 mine never pops up at all. I'm clever enough to tell it to work in the background. 2. it uninstalls with 1 click, it just does not clean the registry too much, but unless you want to install it again that's no problem. 3. It works exactly how the manual explains it works, it just needs someone to understand how to set it up. There is not a product that comes close to it and I include McAfee in that. But you may have your opinion, I'll just sit here and smirk.
(, Fri 12 Aug 2005, 18:11, archived)
# block it with adblock?
I'm still not seeing it, and my network is
directly connected to the big bad internet.
Strange...
