you're right. b3ta is supposed to be about funny gags really, not how good you are at photoshopping. Which is sad for the people that make these, as they'll never be front paged.
On Deviant Art they would get constructive critisism on how to make them better - and properly appreciated for what they are.
Here everyone just goes 'oh, another person blended with a peeling wall. err... woo?'
