I use Opencanvas

It was about £35 when I bought it (I think you can get the trail from portalgraphics.net). It's only suitable for graphics tablets really. Its very pressure sensitive and doesn't usually pick up a mouse.

does anyone remember a prog called 'Fauve Matisse'?

I seem to remember using it years ago and it being quite good.
