# their old stuff is actually quite good and devoid of politicos
Nimrod and Warning are great in my opinion

# don`t really know them to be honest
but a good band of similar ilk is Compulsion, from Dublin - my ex`s uncle was the lead singer

they did some good stuff

# ^^this
don't base your judgement of Green Day on American Idiot, that album doesn't do them justice

# don't be a half-wit
that's the only reasonable thing they have ever done.

# really
american idiot is an excellent album, just overplayed and overhyped. personally i love concept albums and i fell in love with almost all the songs on there (until of course i started hearing them on the radio 24/7)

but american idiot is unlike anything they've done, thankfully i appreciate all eras of green day; either catchy punk rock or borderline-epic rock-opera, take your pick(s).
