is really cool. id like to learn how to do something decent with animation but i have *no* software...any recommendations?

which comes with photoshop. I have also been known to dabble with Serif Photoplus. You can make fairly good animations with that (plus you can convert avi movie files to gifs with it) and its its fairly cheap! bonza!
