I kind-of remember the german pressreferring to Malcolm Rifkind, back when he was defence secretary, visitng germany, as 'der jude' (or I thought it was that) and the Newsnight presenters were saying that it was disrespectful. Ho hum

Thats more likely becausewe tend not to make a big thing about people being jewish here. And the fuss was more likely 'why refer to him as jew. You wouldn't say "the roman catholic tony blair"'

I'm pretty sureJude is standard. I'm sure I've heard some people using pejoritive terms for Jews like Geizkragen and Geizhals but strictly speaking, they just mean like someone who's tight (as in tight-fisted, you dirty, dirty persons).
