I had mine replaced at the start of januaryjust before the years warranty expired, due to battery problems. So this one's only about 3 months old, but the replacement warranty is only for 90 days, which has passed. Cunts.
But I was reading up, and i reckon i could change the drive or battery myself if required. Certainly not paying apple for servicing

replacing the battery isn't hard, but the hard drive is a little trickieras that involves a near total dismantlement of the ipod.
but it all depends what model you have, the newer they are the harder to fix as they keep getting smaller.
