unless there's something I don't know about.

speaking as a macintosh

ha, boot camp came out 3 weeks back.
Parallels is better. It's like Virtual PC, but isn't shit. Still not full windows, but lets you run the odd xp app without leaving mac os.

Absolutely not
I have spent all morning trying to fix a rubbish gay ipod. Have finally managed to reformat it through Apples updater (losing all my music), but now can't do anything with it because I need my power cable to do a fucking firmware reflash

Other than that, all's well. You?

Haven't got firewire on my PC
I'll just have to wait till i get home.
It totally fucked itself yesterday, and I tried all these different solutions from various forums.
The one that eventually worked (enough to get my computer to read it anyway) was to drop it on a hard surface. It worked a treat!

hah
my first ipod (now sold onto a friend) still works fine.
it was a 10gb 3rd gen one (buttons above the wheel), in the time I owned it I had dropped it down the stairs, kicked it across the floor and various other knocks and scrapes.
Sold it to a mate, who cleaned it up (knocked a dent out the casing) and replaced the battery. then in the same day he accidentally dropped it in his pint at the pub. it's nearly 3 years old now and it still works :)

I had mine replaced at the start of january
just before the years warranty expired, due to battery problems. So this one's only about 3 months old, but the replacement warranty is only for 90 days, which has passed. Cunts.
But I was reading up, and i reckon i could change the drive or battery myself if required. Certainly not paying apple for servicing

replacing the battery isn't hard, but the hard drive is a little trickier
as that involves a near total dismantlement of the ipod.
but it all depends what model you have, the newer they are the harder to fix as they keep getting smaller.

Dunno, hopefully reformatting should solve my problems, but it's taken hours just to get iPod updater to recognise it.

funny
you say that... almost every single original unix virus will work on a mac, since many of them were written for the bsd variants.

Eventually I turned off all teh security options
and only allowed machines on by mac address, that seems to work...not sure how secure it will be though

that's what we did
Seems fairly secure
although a techy mate has a device for reading wireless networks and reckoned he could have us cracked in a couple of hours.
If there's anyone out there with the time and knowledge, most wireless networks can be cracked, but ours is secure to the casual user

Find out what the "Gateway IP" is
from the machines connecting wirelessly. That's the address you need to point your browser at to configure your wireless access point. Probably.

The all-knowing FAQ recommends 50k for a static image
If I recall correctly. You should probably be able to compress that to 20-30k without too many noticable compression artifacts.
