# woo
i like that =)

Threadjack: can anyone give me a link to 'optimising animated gifs with the black lines through to reduce file size?' Thanks.

# do it as a 140pixel wide gif
and then put width="280" in the img tag.

then you get no scanlines and a nice retro pixel effect.

# When I've had to do it in the past
I've done it this way:

Open animation as layers in Tattyshop
Create new layer
Use horizontal line selection to fill a few alternate lines with black
Dupilcate this layer a few times
Move the lines around and merge the layers so that I have a complete screen of black lines
Duplicate this layer and merge with all animation layers
Profit

# to get the scan lines, dont just use black
select a dark colour that is already used in the image
then
just make a layer above all of the others that has a line drawn in that colour on every other row of pixels

# Thanks
I thought it was something to do with the actual compression settings, never thought that u just add your own scanlines to cut down the number of coloured pixels.

# There
is a tattyshop/PSP filter to instantly add scanlines to an image but sadly I no longer have it nor can I remember who made it. Simple thing to do is make a big scanline layer then save it as a PSD for future pasting of the layer.
