37Ft accross meaning ther was 1850 squar feet of sail for the wind to catch. there was only me and 2 other guys pulling it up and i was aat the back as the main anchor, so i wrapped it round my wrist.

boat suddenly hit a gust of wind, we all get pulled forward and up buy the rope and i get my wrist crushed.

# I still love the fact
that there's actually a sword called a 'Bastard Sword'.

That's the weapon I'd want.
(, Fri 17 Nov 2006, 12:21, archived)
# I don't know what my sword would be called really.
I just call it a hand-and-a-half sword, as that's what it's always been called around me.

It's rather large. And in two pieces now the tang's snapped.
(, Fri 17 Nov 2006, 12:22, archived)
# Yeah
longswords were otherwise known as Bastard Swords apparently.

Truly inspired.
(, Fri 17 Nov 2006, 12:24, archived)

Pink Squirrel.

# That's a hand-and-a-half sword
You can swing it one handed if you're well-trained, but it can also be used two-handed. They're sort of between a zwei-hander and a longsword.
Aragorn's spethial sword in Return of the King is a bastard sword.
(, Fri 17 Nov 2006, 12:33, archived)

# woo
i like that =)

Threadjack: can anyone give me a link to "optimising animated gifs with the black lines through to reduce file size?" Thanks.
(, Fri 17 Nov 2006, 12:07, archived)
# do it as a 140pixel wide gif
and then put width="280" in the img tag.

then you get no scanlines and a nice retro pixel effect.
(, Fri 17 Nov 2006, 12:10, archived)
# cheers, ill give that a go
(, Fri 17 Nov 2006, 12:10, archived)
# When I've had to do it in the past
I've done it this way:

Open animation as layers in Tattyshop
Create new layer
Use horizontal line selection to fill a few alternate lines with black
Dupilcate this layer a few times
Move the lines around and merge the layers so that I have a complete screen of black lines
Duplicate this layer and merge with all animation layers
Profit
(, Fri 17 Nov 2006, 12:13, archived)
# to get the scan lines, dont just use black
select a dark colour that is already used in the image
then
just make a layer above all of the others that has a line drawn in that colour on every other row of pixels
(, Fri 17 Nov 2006, 12:14, archived)
# aha :)
thanks a lot :)

Thanks to everyone else as well. Much appriciated.
(, Fri 17 Nov 2006, 12:18, archived)
#
(, Fri 17 Nov 2006, 12:26, archived)
# Thanks
I thought it was something to do with the actual compression settings, never thought that u just add your own scanlines to cut down the number of coloured pixels.
(, Fri 17 Nov 2006, 12:30, archived)
# There
is a tattyshop/PSP filter to instantly add scanlines to an image but sadly I no longer have it nor can I remember who made it. Simple thing to do is make a big scanline layer then save it as a PSD for future pasting of the layer.
(, Fri 17 Nov 2006, 12:35, archived)
# that is very well done
and people thought that there were no more original ideas left 'I likes this a lot
(, Fri 17 Nov 2006, 12:08, archived)
# haha I was going to do this yesterday, but couldn't find a good enough xray image

# i did last week before the compo started, but i couldn't be arsed to post it.
(, Fri 17 Nov 2006, 12:10, archived)
# I made a pic for the compo before I was even born.

#
my great, great, great grandad was an innovative medieval woodblock carver and did a wry print of this before any thing like it was invented.

he was found to be a warlock and burnt at the stake

# Yeah...
I found three that sort of fitted and merged them. Was going to use my own x-ray of my foot but realised prostetics probably aren't made of bones.

# i spent about an hour searching for this source image
then 5 min shopping it
(, Fri 17 Nov 2006, 12:18, archived)
