Someone tell me about these lines.
I understand how they help with optimising (in principle) but I have no idea how you do them or your real reasons and I'd like to know,

it's gif compression
it goes horizontal...meaning that the same colour in a horizontal orientation can be compressed to a maximum like this. You can have a twice as big image for the price of a small one.
