the filesize, I removed 8 with no real loss of fluidity but like the good doctor said above, the size is fine.

# I ripped the dvd to an AVI..
created the spinach frame in Photoshop
imported both into Premiere
fiddled around a bit
exported out of Premiere as an AVI
imported into Image Ready where I optimized it
and exported out as an Animated Gif

how do you rip DVDs into .AVIs? I have some low powered Ulead video editing software. would i be able to do it with that?

You need a DVD drive or vidcap card, playback software with frame capture (or preferably full video editing) capability, and a lot of patience - oh, and something more powerful than Paint to save the final GIF with.
