I'm with you on thatLiving in London, my car was just for heavy shopping and local trips.
My best was a clapped out Rover 213. I bought it for 250 pounds and kept it for almost 4 years. Only replaced the brake pads and chucked in a bit of oil on the odd occassion.
The only reason it failed its MOT was because of rust.
