nor shall cd ripping or mp3's be killing an industry with such huge profits.

you think I should get my Fischer Studio twindeck on ebay this week then?

I had some of that as well I think ( or might have been my sister, her being the younger 'un )
I've loads of 70's and 80's hardware. I'm a hoarder of the stuff. Ols analog Marantz amps that can knock socks of my Denon. sigh, they don't make 'em like that any more.

And I remember holding my first CD (may have been Bat out of Hell) and going 'oooh...the future!!'

they are just more expensive.
i've seen some nice new valve based stereos, but alas they are way out of my price range for a simple home system.

up at RS components there might be stuff available. I'd hope so. It's such a different sound.

had a load of valves knocking around, are they valuable?
( ,

valves were never cheap but price is all about demand and there is little of that now. Modern valve tech is quite a bit different and the old stuff is not interchangeable.

It's true that they don't make 'em like that anymore.
High-street quality amps are certainly miles cheaper than they used to be and on the whole, they sound miles cheaper too.
And speakers? My bit fat Mission 3-ways from 1985 still sound ace.
I remember when this was all fields...

My Jamo 365's are still doing the job some 16 years after I bought them.

Yet you can still buy them easily. I don't think the staff are trained to handle difficult questions about anything more than 3 weeks old :)
( ,

is to ignore them. Anyone intrested in film, esp 35mm or above goes to Jessops or similar anyway.

though Dixons were idiots at pricing things so you could usually rip them off easily ;)

I have a few compacts plus an SLR. I have 4 SLR35mm and over 20 lenses collecting dust in the wardrobe. I will never use them again. It's just obsolete.

you might want to buy one rather than just putting your hands on it... unless you live in a society with different rules regarding ownership
( ,

you see buying cars is something i avoid. i wait until other people are so sick of them that they are willing to give them away.
the other option i go for is "short term ownership":
pay 50 quid for an imminent MOT failure wreck, run for six to 9 months, weigh it in for 30 quid scrap. bargain!

Living in London, my car was just for heavy shopping and local trips.
My best was a clapped out Rover 213. I bought it for 250 pounds and kept it for almost 4 years. Only replaced the brake pads and chucked in a bit of oil on the odd occassion.
The only reason it failed its MOT was because of rust.

I have to agree with mictoboy though ;)
Plus now I'll never be able to copy my old tapes that came free with Vox/Q/Select etc in the 90's

Though I wonder if you'd end up with a case full of tape if they ever wound out.

rose-tinted specs are great.
All my cassettes got destroyed when I was about twenty, by my (now ex) wife's dogs and kids. The music of my youth (mostly dodgy 80s metal), all those carefully crafted compilations - all gone.

My three 80's boomboxes say otherwise
I'll have to buy a bunch of blank tapes before this nonsense reaches sweden
to be honest I usually just use my FM transmitter
connected to an mp3 player, but I still like to
sit on the floor in front of my old stereo and listen to music while I record a mixtape.
