try..checking the keyboard in the mouse socket, if the keyboard works you've shafted the socket, has happened to me before :(

we had one this weekat work. I thought Dell were talking pish when they said try the Kb in the mouse port - the guy didn't know why he was suggesting it either. We told him that we'd tried a working Kb in the port and also the seemingly bust Kb in another machine and it worked. It was the port, as I had originally suggested.
