my comp crashed - froze up as it has done a few times laelt when i have a save dialog box open and try to change the name i'm saving it as. Also just trying to click a filename once and rename it that way does the same.
i'm on win me - i restarted and now keyboard stopped working. i've tried a different keyboard, and tried adding new hardware to reinstall drivers, but no luck.

I assume XP. If so sometimes it takes ages to read drives (so it can list available drives).
Take out all your cd,s and unplug any zip drives, card readers, etc.
Have you tried going away for 10 minutes ?

start backing-up your stuff. It sounds like something is seriously unhappy, possibly hardware (do you get a DOS message saying keyboard failure?).
Have you tried a different keyboard in the machine?
The renaming crash might be unconnected, and sounds like a screwed windows registry or something (hence back-up and maybe reinstall operating system).
Get a second opinion though!

at work. I thought Dell were talking pish when they said try the Kb in the mouse port - the guy didn't know why he was suggesting it either. We told him that we'd tried a working Kb in the port and also the seemingly bust Kb in another machine and it worked. It was the port, as I had originally suggested.
