
I'd wager that if you ask someone who's making cherub things where cherubs are from, they'll say the bible.

then the bible, but I've read interpretations in many works of fiction. Then there are people who paint cherubs (fat babies with wings) with no religious conotation whatsoever in the artist's mind.
But the point is cherubism the medical condition is named after the chubby babies in paintings, not the original source of those images be they large men with spears or creatures like this:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Human_headed_winged_bull_facing.jpg which is a Shedu and possible original basis for the Cherubim.
It's like a bit like calling a vaccuum cleaner a hoover when its a dyson.
