# quick thread jack
anyone know how to get make a bitmap have a transparant background in flash? I've done it in Director and presumed I could do it in flash (which Is why I'm using it for an animation)

(its only Flash 5 because that's the trial verson I found on my HD!)

any ideas or otherproggys that might work (and that have trials that allow me to save!)

# if
the image you're working with has a transparent background (ie it is a gif or png, and you've set it up right) then it should do it automatically

# but other than that
not a clue

# just comes out

so what is it I've got to set up properly?

# Maybe
just save your bitmap as a transparent png or gif in an image editor and then import?

# that'll learn me
trying to use pngs did it with a gif and it's fine (the PNG is transparant in mozilla!) I can no create my masterpiece (I'll see you all once it's finnished!)

# PNG transparency
isn't supported as well as it should be, it's all a conspiracy to make us keep using shitty-looking GIFs.

# whatever package you use to save the image
has to write a gif/png with a transparent background. in photoshop, this means turning off the "background" layer, and saving for web as one of the above. i'm not sure about other programs, and i can't promise that this is the best way to do it. it's the only way that i know of, though
