It's very difficult to diagnose a problem
if the person who has that problem won't accept that there's something wrong with them.
Given that part of a politician's job is to be self-important and confident, I doubt they'd ever admit to having mental problems unless under extreme pressure - as with the Lib Dem leader.

True but you don't always need an admission for a problem to be apparent
especially with something like substance or behavioural addiction.

Some of the previous leaders already have had such issues.
Like said above, Winston Churchill.
Looking for a perfect leader who's as clean as scrubbed crystal is nigh on impossible.
It's where it compromises the position most is a problem. Having said that who's not to say having a problem in the first place creates a learning curve.
