# I'm not being pissy or implying anything
but did you just make wand selections and fill them with colour or did you have a great deal of layers containing shape vector paths like this?

There is nothing wrong with either way, except one of them has nothing to do with vector imaging. I just have a bee in my bonnet the way the term 'vector' is bandied about on here. I've never seen more than 10 images on b3ta ever that were true vector shape renders.

# the abuse of this word does my head in
and I'm not even a mathematician :)

but folks name things and that's way it is

and some folks use "vector" to mean "method" it's all too confusing really

# It pisses me off. I rarely do vector work
because as you can see from the above image even a simple cartoon takes masses and masses of work and detail.

This latest trend for colouring in selections has now had the term 'vexel' given to it. Which is better I suppose as it's pixel based imaging to give a vector shape effect.

# I hate "vexel"
It should just be called Fill-Tooling!

# what?
Tools filling in? ;)

Dave the hat has it sorted. He's never used Photoshop and when he got illustrator he just found out the proper way to do things. He's great with gradient meshes and is the only person I know on here who does it 'properly'.

# All my Vector stuff is properly drawn out spline work
I started work with good old Corel Draw and have been using Xara for about 10 years.
Here's one I never finished

# Ah, now see, that's much better...

# bjork!
She's fucking batty.

I must try and get into Xara extreme. I installed it last month and promptly had a system rebuild. I've been meaning to get to grips with it for a while. I understand it's good for vector work ( I also understand it's piss easy to cheat and have it done for you )

# the tracer function is pretty shit really
But its very quick and even easier to use.

# My first and only attempt at a "vexel"

must give real vectors a try though - haven't even started using that bit of photoshop yet
(, Thu 26 Jul 2007, 21:32, archived)
# photoshop does not have 'that bit'
well you can do so much with the bezier pen tool but for proper functionality you need illustrator ( that's me messing with laird dave's stuff whilst trying my new Ill CS3 out )

Edit:// There is not always a lot of difference in the look, this was rendered in Illustrator as vector shapes and paths ( with some post pro in photoshop )
