ugly can be fun.
i lived in an ugly city when i was in university - it was only depressing if you took it seriously. people had yard sales in the middle of the week and extramarital affairs at cheap coffee shops. it was hilarious.

I actually did use my city in two short films I made.
in fact im currently writing something for another one where the city takes a big place in it. much like contra costa county to that of negativland.
