My mother used to get me KMnO4 to make smaller pipe bombs.My old man caught me making electrically ignited pipe bombs in his shed and went mad.
Apparently bending copper can cause enough heat to ignite powder - he took me to the hardware store to get threaded tube caps and some grease.
