I've been to Whitby too
with the ship, but only stopping to stock up and get drunk when we sailed around Britain 2 years back.

They had a replica of the Endeavor there some years back ( which is scaled down and not so large, but your idea of large and mine might differ us being different species and all )
It could have been the Grand Turk, a replica of a frigate from the battle of Waterloo ( and the ship in 'hornblower' ) as she winters there. I've sailed and crewed on her too.
