on Windows with the "View Desktop as a Webpage" selected? It's sort of related to a project a friend and I have undertaken. I sort of *inflated* my abilities with Flash when I heard of the project's budget

go to "file" - "publish settings"
check the box that says .gif image in the format section,
click on the gif tab and then change to "Transparent" in the transparency drop down box.
then when you go to export the movie tick the transparency check box in the export box.
