i'm running a fun-run in april - 10 miles
and i keep telling people, 'it will probably kill me', which is in poor taste considering i'm running it to raise money for leukemia charity - a friend of mine dying from it last year...

Yes
but did you actually say that to your friend?

not
before he died, no.

A friend of mine died from cancer a couple of years ago
another friend wanted to get him a "get well soon" card but when it became clear he wasn't going to she settled for "Enjoy your trip".
The sentiment was thankfully appreciated.
