My default position on hardware issues is'Burn a Ubuntu Live CD'.
Ubuntu's pretty good with laptops and wireless now, and you can run it without installing anything. If Ubuntu can work it then at least you know the wireless card is functioning properly.

Live CDs don't install anything,it runs off the CD.
Very handy.
