
Clubbing? The the hair receptors in the aural canal that deal with HF go first.
I do know a guitarist that has exactly the same problem in his left ear. Amazingly enough in the last year of so it has started to come back a bit.
You do lose HFs anyway. The audable range for humans is said to be 20Hz to 20kHz but that is based on a child's hearing. Most people have problems hearing things above 19kHz.
