
The first paper on the stuff spelt it 'Aluminum'. The US stuck with it while he rest of the world decided it didn't fit and changed it accordingly by adding the 'i'.
But spelling sulphur as 'sulfur' and then forcing the rest of the world to use it (fudging IUPAC...) is beyond the pale.
Edit: As Prof. Headwound is in a different part of this thread, we'll have to declare a mindpiss draw...
