# huzzah!
i was watching surrey train earlier today :)
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:11, archived)
# :D
Flintoff and Vaugne were shit. Both out for 0 after 3 balls.

So much for the so called England superstars :(

# you're kidding?
i despair of england and sport now. apart from rugby of course
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:14, archived)
# Bloody good show in the rugby.
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:15, archived)
# indeed.
won sixty quid on the world cup from a £1 bet

# Christ are you still crapping on about the last great english sporting victory?
Haven't had another one since 2002? (Actually the ashes was 2004...)

# I can only think of one thing more pointless than spectator sport.
Belgium.
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:26, archived)
# bitterness foisted on to anyone who'll read it?
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:26, archived)
# It's not bitter, spectator sport just is fairly pointless.
Well actually I'll qualify that statement. Getting worked up and competitive over the activities of people you have no relation with and which you had no role in their success or defeat, is the most pointless thing ever.

Sports themselves are good though, especially ones with swords and fighting.

# last summer was hardly long ago
i placed a 60/1 bet that england would qualify for the finals
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:26, archived)
# Ah I see!
They lost to SA though...
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:38, archived)
# still got to the final, which no one expected
especially no one expected us to beat the wallabies or the all blacks
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:39, archived)
# I was surprised the wallabies lasted that long.
pathetic showing from them. All Blacks, well they always choke somewhere.
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:44, archived)
# thats why i was impressed with england, the boys came from absolutly nowhere in the first round to just keep powering through
very proud of them
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:47, archived)
# Well to be fair
Flintoff has been out of it for a while with various injuries, but I would have expected a bit more from Vaugne. Gough bowled well for Yorkshire though.
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:16, archived)
# which ground were you at?
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:16, archived)
# Manchester.
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:17, archived)
# ah cool cool.
i'm looking forward to the village cricket tomorrow. i've a fair amount of pimms i'm taking with me :)
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:20, archived)
# Braw for Pimms O'clock.
I should be off to the South African Test at Headingley, Leeds next month.
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:22, archived)
# thats going to be a thorough dicking though isn't it?
its always pimms o'clock here. i've got my harris tweed out for pimmsing already
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:25, archived)
# Judging by the recent performance of England players in the County 20/20 games
I would say so.

# christ we're rubbish.
we should get back to the sport britain was best at: invading people
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:32, archived)
# :D
*supports this argument*

Mind you, we dont seem to have done vary well out in the middle east.
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:33, archived)
# thats because we're not wearing pith helmets and bright redcoats.
there is a distinct correlation between the silliness of british uniforms and military success
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:37, archived)
# Except for World War Two, in which the British army had the least silly of uniforms.
Germans had the most showy and stupid looking balloon trousers tucked into boots and they lost.

I'm more inclined to believe Rimmer's shortest haircut wins hypothesis.
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:46, archived)
# Nonsence!
It is quite clearly the army that drinks the most tea that is superior.
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:49, archived)
# nonsense. ghandi was bald.
and i said british uniforms. the uniform in WWII was fairly practical and the victory wasn't glorious. red jacket and a hat like an alabaster mono-tit? an empire the sun never set on
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:49, archived)
# Until it set.

# when we starting wearing drab clothes. you see?
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:55, archived)
# That and the self realisation of an imposing and autocratic empire in a world that was finally coming to terms with the real cost of constant war.
(, Sun 22 Jun 2008, 2:57, archived)
# say what you like bout the empire
it did a lot of good as well as bad.
